Spectacular show in Long Beach kicks off holiday season

The Masters of Harmony returned to the acoustically friendly venue of the Carpenter Performing Arts Center this past Saturday, November 24, to present our annual Christmas show titled “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!”

The program featured songs from the MOH’s seasonal repertoire — both holiday standards from our familiar playbook and new pieces. Each was tweaked to perfection and performed with the chorus’s signature intensity and expression. One of the most exciting aspects of the show was the introduction of new music director Justin Miller. Coming to this prestigious position with a remarkable resume, Justin joins an elite set of vaunted directors of our world-famous chorus.

As expected, this show was, in a word, spectacular, and a fitting debut for the new master of the Masters. The production team, led by Show Producer Gary Stone, rivaled a main stage L.A. or Broadway event — kudos and sincere appreciation to one and all. The nonstop entertainment and stage effects kept afternoon and evening audiences mesmerized!

This year’s program included a unique performance of the 12-voice, all-female Lutheran High School of Orange County Honors Choir, whose period costumes and sweet harmonies added a nostalgic touch to the show. Featured guest soloist Megan Lyne charmed the audience with her tender rendition of “Merry Christmas, Darling” and turned the heads of women and men of all ages with her bright red dress and sultry performance of “Santa Baby.” Seasonal harmonies from our chapter quartets, American Pastime and American Heralds, added the perfect touch.

What can we say about our very own legend, Les Weiser, whose fan club was present en masse at both shows? He and the MOH Band of Renown rocked the house!

Our performances were a rousing success by our standards and as reflected in patron comments. So on to Riverside where we will reprise the show for a matinee on Sunday, December 2, 3:00 pm, at the Fox Performing Arts Center. Don’t be late!
